Revelation 12:9 – And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world—he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him.

The serpent was the seal of perfection, full of wisdom, perfect in beauty, the anointed guardian cherub (Eze 28:12, 14). He said he would ascend to heaven above the stars of God and make himself like the Most High (Isa 14:13-14).

Mankind was made in the image and likeness of God. Adam was created from the dust of the earth and put in the Garden of Eden by God. Eve was created from Adam in the Garden. They walked and communed with God in the Garden likely as interdimensional beings in human bodies.

As the fallen serpent observed mankind in the Garden, a place he once inhabited (see Eze 28:13), could he have felt envious or thought mankind replaced him as the ruler of the Garden? Notice, the deception he presented Eve with that resulted in Adam succumbing to the temptation to eat the forbidden fruit.

Gen 3:4-5 – But the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will BE LIKE God, knowing good and evil.”

The serpent knew what God did to him as a consequence of pride in his heart to be LIKE GOD. So to kill and rule over mankind, all he had to do was get mankind to desire to be like God in their hearts as well.

What the serpent didn’t know was in so doing he was sealing his own destruction. Gen 3:15 – “I [God] will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.”

Rev 20:10 – and the devil who had deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur.
