DESTIN: Readers' Favorite 5-Star Review
by Jamie Michele for Readers’ FavoriteIn Dr. Philip Zimmerman’s Christian thriller Destin, John Striker arrives in Florida during the final stretch of a cross-country motorcycle journey tied to a promise. An accident leaves him injured before reaching Destin, forcing him to rely on Hunter Green to continue. At the shoreline, his actions draw the attention of Ed Oberman and Rebecca Weiss, putting him in a situation shaped by a violent incident involving Mike Phillips and a dispute over what occurred. As John continues toward his objective, his connection to a custom motorcycle and his work with advanced artificial intelligence systems bring increased scrutiny, placing him between competing interests tied to control of those systems. While maintaining his commitment, he becomes directly involved in decisions that affect Rebecca’s future and Ed’s response to him.
Dr. Philip Zimmerman’s Destin is a brilliant, fast-paced thriller with a lot of really, really nice cars! I love John for his grit and ability to hunker down and fight through pain and injury, but when Rebecca goes from Ferrari to Tesla and still chooses a Ford Bronco for herself? It was a toss-up who I would invite over for dinner first. The writing is sharp and cinematic, and puts readers in visual settings, the standout to me being a fortified coastal house that is a prepper's dream. It comes fully loaded to operate autonomously with corridors, enclosed courtyards, and a central pool that controls and separates those inside from the outside world. This is a Christian novel, and Zimmerman leans deeply into scripture. The characters themselves also show their faith through direct practice, including a priest in a hospital performing rites for an unconscious patient, and people turning to prayer as an intentional response to crisis. Readers who relish faith-based thrillers loaded with tech and buckets of action will find it all here. Recommended.
