Destin by Dr. Philip Zimmerman is the story of John Striker, a tech billionaire whose sentient AI poses the threat of global destruction. He has arrived in Destin, Florida, as a repentant man on a mission after meeting Curtis Rabb on a ski lift at the Blue Mountain Resort. Curtis has been behind his spiritual awakening, having offered to show him the Way revealed in Jesus. John travels across the country using a customized Harley to preach the Gospel. His mission leads him to meet Ed Oberman, a rich, agnostic Jew with a strong hostility toward Christianity. John heals Ed’s friend, Mike, exorcises a demon from Ed, and dismantles Ed’s resistance to conversion. With revelations coming out, will he be able to convert Ed and neutralize his rogue AI?

Dr. Philip Zimmerman's tale reads as a modern-day Christian allegory. I enjoyed how he explores the conflict between the power of Artificial Intelligence and the liberating power of the Gospel. John’s transformation was an inspiring aspect of this book for me. He is a man who lacks nothing, a billionaire who gives up his wealth in response to the call of the Gospel to sell everything and follow Jesus. The part of self-effacement in his character is skillfully developed, and he came across as a reflection of the Way of Jesus. I enjoyed the biblical references, which give the writing an educational quality, but it was the spiritual symbolism that really captured my interest. Destin will delight Christians and readers who want to understand the key messages of the Gospel and what true conversion entails.
