DESTIN: Readers' Favorite 5-Star Review
by Pikasho Deka for Readers’ FavoriteDestin is the first book in the John Striker series by Dr. Philip Zimmerman. John Striker, a tech giant who has made a mark on the world of sentient AI, became a deeply devout Christian after a mysterious encounter with God. Now, after a brutal beating by a gang of squatters, John somehow manages to find his way to Destin, Florida, on his custom Harley Davidson CVO. But soon, he runs into Ed Oberman, a troubled yet influential man who is suspicious of John's intentions. Ed sends his goddaughter, Chase Breeze, to seduce John. However, Chase ends up discovering who she truly is. Meanwhile, Ed's friends, Mike and Bruce, come to terms with the man Ed has become. What's going to happen to John, Ed, and his friends?
Destin illustrates the power of faith with the wisdom of the scriptures. It's a moving tale about faith and self-discovery. Dr. Philip Zimmerman weaves an absorbing, character-driven drama that sets its hooks in you from the very first page. There is an underlying layer of mystery that keeps you invested in the plot machinations. The author places some timely twists and turns in the narrative that you never see coming. John draws his strength from his faith, dedicating himself to helping and improving the lives of others. He is a likable protagonist and very easy to root for. I also liked the complicated friendship between Ed, Bruce, and Mike. Hunter and Chase/Rebecca were interesting secondary characters, too. There's a cliffhanger toward the end that only makes you more eager to read the sequel. All in all, drama lovers are in for a treat.
