#201 JUDGING OTHERS | Matthew 7:1-6
by Dr. Philip ZimmermanWay of the Bible #201: JUDGING OTHERS | Matthew 7:1–6
“Judge not…”
These may be some of the most quoted—and most misunderstood—words Jesus ever spoke.
In this episode, we return to the Sermon on the Mount and wrestle with a passage that confronts every believer: Jesus’ command about judging others and how we should offer correction.
Most of us assume we already understand what Jesus meant. After all, we’ve shaped our lives around experience, church teaching, and what we believe it means to be a “good” Christian. But when Jesus’ words challenge our assumptions, things can get uncomfortable.
Was Jesus speaking only to the unbelieving Jews around Him?
Or was He speaking directly to us?
The answer becomes clearer when we look at the apostles’ letters. The message is repeated again and again:
• Romans 2:1 – When you judge another, you condemn yourself.
• Romans 14:4 – Who are you to judge someone else’s servant?
• Romans 14:10 – We will all stand before God’s judgment seat.
Jesus then gives a vivid picture: remove the log from your own eye before addressing the speck in another’s.
Why? Because when we truly face our own sin and weakness, judgment begins to transform into compassion. Instead of condemning others, we begin seeking healing—first in ourselves, and then, if possible, in them.
But Jesus also offers a warning. Not everyone is ready to receive correction. Wisdom, humility, and discernment must guide when—and whether—we offer counsel.
In this episode we explore:
• What Jesus really meant by “judge not”
• Why self-examination must come before correction
• How pride blinds us to our own faults
• When to offer counsel—and when to remain silent
The truth is simple but humbling:
God alone has perfect knowledge of the heart.
And while we are busy judging others, we often overlook the very same faults within ourselves.
🎧 Listen now and discover what Jesus was truly teaching about judgment, humility, and compassion.
