Explaining the purpose of the Parable of the Sower to his disciples, Jesus pointed out the significance of hearing. Luke 8:10To you it has been given to know the secrets of the kingdom of God, but for others they are in parables, so that ‘seeing they may not see, and HEARING they may not understand.’

Jesus told his disciples the seed being sown was the word of God. When the word of God was spoken, proclaimed, and or preached the people present “heard” the sowing of the seed, the word of God.

This is confirmed in the following verses from Luke 8.

v 12 – The ones along the path are those who have HEARD…

v 13 – And the ones on the rock are those who, when they HEAR the word…

v 14 – And as for what fell among the thorns, they are those who HEAR…

v 15 – As for that in the good soil, they are those who, HEARING the word…

A wake-up call to look into prophetic texts was given by Jesus when he said, “and hearing they may not understand” (Luke 8:10). You’ll find this in several places where God is speaking to the prophets about the hardness of heart of the people of Israel and Judah. God tells these prophets what Jesus told his disciples.

Ezekiel 3:27‘Thus says the Lord GOD.' He who will hear, let him hear; and he who will refuse to hear, let him refuse, for they are a rebellious house.

This hearing or not continues even today. As you consider this listen keep in mind Romans 10:14How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching?

Join me in focused sowing of seed in faith that many will hear and understand.
