Remember Naaman the leaper of Syria getting all upset because Elisha told him to dip seven times in the Jordan? What did his servants say, 2 Kings 5:13 – “My father, it is a great word the prophet has spoken to you; will you not do it? Has he actually said to you, ‘Wash, and be clean’?”

How about Paul writing in, Romans 10:8-9 – But what does it [righteousness that is by faith] say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith that we proclaim); because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

The hardest thing for mankind is to be told to do something which costs us nothing in order to acquire what money, influence, position, and or power cannot buy. Jesus said in Mark 8:36-37 – For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul? For what can a man give in return for his soul?

At the heart of mankind’s struggle is the greatest and most costly sin in heaven and on earth – PRIDE. The sin of Lucifer. 

Provers 21:4 – Haughty eyes and a PROUD heart, the lamp of the wicked, are sin. 

1 John 2:16 – For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and PRIDE of life—is not from the Father but is from the world.

What is the SIMPLE thing God requires which is seemingly impossible for mankind on our own? 1 John 3:23 – And this is his commandment, that we believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and love one another, just as he has commanded us.
