#101 To the Family in-Christ | Part 2; 1 John 4-5

Way of the Bible podcast

You can gather representatives of all faiths of the world in a room and only two will be hated, Jews and Christians. Why is that? Aren’t all religions the same? Don’t they all lead to the same place?

John explains the disconnect in, 1 John 4:4-6 – Little children, you are from God and have overcome them [spirts that do not confess Jesus], for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. 5 They are from the world; therefore they speak from the world, and the world listens to them. 6 We are from God. Whoever knows God listens to us; whoever is not from God does not listen to us. By this we know the Spirit of truth and the spirit of error.

There Are:

People “in the world” who are “from the world,” AND

People “in the world” who are “from God.”

There Are:

Religions “in the world” that are “of the world,” AND

One faith “in the world” that is “from God.”

Jesus addressed how the people and religions of the would treat his disciples in John 15:18-21 – “If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you. Remember what I told you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also. If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also. They will treat you this way because of my name, for they do not know the one who sent me."

John told believers their difference from the people of the world in, 1 John 4:7-8 – Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. 8 Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.
