Welcome to Episode #117 of Way of the Bible podcast. This is our fifth of eight episodes in our fifteenth mini-series, It’s All About Jesus. On this episode we’re going to take a look at what happens when the church does not pursue maturity in the faith. That lack of pursuing opens The Way to Apostasy as described by Jesus and his Apostles. Apostasy is an anticipated reality in the New Testament and has been seen throughout the history of the church.
In this mini-series we’ve been looking at unfolding TRUTH associated with Jesus’ explanation of the Parable of the Sower found in Luke 8:4-21. A key verse in this passage we’ve been launching from is Luke 8:18 – “Take care then how you hear, for to the one who has, more will be given, and from the one who has not, even what he thinks that he has will be taken away.”
We’ll start where we left off on our last episode with Hebrews 5:14 – But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil. As we walk this out on this episode we’re going to be in high altitude overview mode to expose you to the wealth of passages that are on point for this topic (The Way to Apostasy). It’s easiest to see good as being the TRUTH and evil being the LIE. The character of God and the redeemed in the light possessing eternal life are on one side of the line in the sand. The devil and willful mankind still in darkness and death, enslaved by the devil to do his will are on the other side of the line in the sand.
